I never knew what sleep apnea was and just how serious it could affect my life until I started researching some health issues I had that weren’t getting any better.
I had uncontrollable high blood pressure. I was taken medication for it and it still could not be controlled. It would skyrocket without notice and leave me unable to function. The medication I was on was designed to bring it back down really fast which also left me in a daze.
I was putting on weight like crazy and just couldn’t sleep well at night.
I would wake up with a severe sore throat from sleeping with my mouth open all night. I would gasp for air and choke.
My wife complained about my snoring and how terrible it was. She would have to go to bed before me or she would have trouble going to sleep because of my snoring.
I had no clue I had sleep apnea and that was the cause of this whole thing.
When I moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, I met a dentist there that treated sleep apnea with an oral appliance. As I talked with him and he began to tell me the signs and symptoms of sleep apnea, I immediately knew that I had sleep apnea because I had all the symptoms he described.
This sent me on a journey to discover just how bad this disease was and why it needed treatment.
Sleep Apnea Treatment That Changed My Life
I had started developing sleep apnea after I had an accident that limited my mobility. As I put on weight, my neck got thicker and my airway began to be obstructed due to the thicker neck.
Sleep apnea is a catch twenty-two situation. It can be caused by putting on weight. The extra weight that you put causes other health issues that cause the sleep apnea to worsen. Then you are in a cycle of bad health with one thing getting worse and causing something else to get worse.
When I was in High School, I only weighed 175 pounds. When sleep apnea got a hold on my life, I went up to 395 pounds.
All of this caused me to sustain damage to the right side of my heart … 20% damage.
When I got my sleep apnea treated, it changed everything. I lost almost 50 pounds immediately. My blood pressure normalized and other problems started going away.
It then put me in a position to start taking control of other aspects of my health.
If you have sleep apnea, then I cannot recommend that you call Dr. Parmar enough. She is passionate about helping people who were in my situation get their life and health back. Don’t waste time by not calling her as time is something you may not have if you have sleep apnea.
